Abruzzo Pescara Airport - All Information on Abruzzo Pescara Airport (PSR)

Abruzzo Pescara Airport, also known as PSR, is an international airport serving the city of Pescara in Italy, around 5 kilometers from downtown Pescara and roughly 180 kilometers from Rome.

It is a vital link between the region and the rest of Italy, bringing in people from Molise, Marche, and the Gargano area.

The rise in the number of passengers using the airport's transit services can be attributed, in large part, to the expansion of low-cost airlines and flight numbers.

Abruzzo Pescara Airport is a modest airport with a single terminal constructed in 1996. This terminal was expanded in 2011 and redesigned only this year in 2018. This provides the facility with a more contemporary look.

History of Abruzzo Pescara Airport

The beginning of the airport's history may be traced back to 1917. Since 1921, the airport has been known as Pasquale Liberi Airport, after the famed author Gabriele d'Annunzio's friend Pasquale Liberi, who was an aviator. The airport was expanded to cover a total area of 50 hectares and upgraded in 1927.

In the 1930s, the airline Società Aerea Mediterranea (SAM) began 1933 with service from Pescara to Rome Urbe Airport, stopping at the airfield of Piana di Bagno near L'Aquila as an intermediate stop. This service ran until the end of the decade.

The first airline to resume commercial service following World War II was Transadriatica, which began flying between Pescara and Rome and Urbe in 1947.

At the same time, Transadriatica launched another exciting route: from Venezia via Ancona to Pescara to Brindisi and then to Catania.

In addition, the airline company Avio Linee Italiane inaugurated a new route connecting Northern Italy and Southern Italy for the first time. This route will go as follows: Milan–Pescara–Foggia–Bari–Brindisi.
